Jennn Herzberg Update - January 2003

Hello Missions Committee and St. Paul—

I know it’s been, oh, FOREVER since I’ve written any sort of personal email to you, and for that I apologize. I hope you all had a great holiday season, filled with JOY at the birth of “Jezisko” (pronounced “Yay-jeesh-ko” with the z as a soft j sound). In Slovak, the addition of a “ko” or “ka” at the end of a word gives it a more affectionate connotation. So, “little Jesus”. I think it’s great. Sorry if I haven’t explained it sufficiently!

My dad, mom and brother just left a few days ago, so I’m now spending the weekend getting everything back to ‘normal’ again! My family and I had a wonderful time together, spending New Year’s eve in Vienna, then heading to Prague and ending up in Bratislava. Lots of travel in a short time, making for tired, but satisfied, Herzbergs!!

I want to just say a word of thanks again for your support of God’s mission in Central Europe. This place is quite spiritually dead, so much prayer and hard work is needed for this area of the world. January is World Missions Month, so I’d encourage you to check out the LCMS Worldmissions website and see what’s going on there. There are many opportunities to get more involved with the spreading of His Kingdom.

I miss St. Paul quite a lot these days…when I think of Christmas, most of my memories are directly related to St. Paul…spending 3 or 4 services on Christmas Eve at church, playing bells or singing in the choir, snacking on cheese & crackers in dad’s office between services…and oh, how I miss those days!! :) Really, I do! But my favorite memory of all is 11pm candlelight service on Christmas Eve…seeing the same faces every year, hearing beautiful music and ushering in Christmas the way it should be—celebrating the real reason for the holiday!

Thanks for taking a quick trip down memory lane with me-I appreciate it : ). Give my greetings to St. Paul, please!! I pray that this new year, full of changes and transitions, is a year of Peace and Joy in our hearts and minds. God’s blessings to y’all!

Jennn
