Stephen Ministry – Caring that Changes Lives

Stephen Ministry is grounded in Jesus' command to love one another. Through one-to-one caring relationships, those who are hurting receive the love and care they need to support them. Is your life more than you can handle alone right now?  Are your health, your attitude, or your relationships suffering?  Are you adjusting to a new job, change in marital status, a serious illness, the death of a loved one, or a recent move?  Would like to have someone in your life who really cares?  Everyone goes through difficult times. Having someone to care, to listen, to share God's love with you can help you get through the confusion, stress, or loneliness you may be experiencing.

What is a Stephen Minister?

A Stephen Minister is …

A child of God who walks beside a person who is hurting

A caring, Christian friend who takes time to really listen

A lay person who has received 50 hours of training in how to provide distinctly Christian care

A Stephen Minister is NOT …

A counselor or therapist

A problem-solver

A casual visitor

Meet our Stephen Ministry Leader Team

The following people lead our Stephen Ministry here at St Paul. They have gone through an intensive leadership training course and are equipped with the tools they need to ensure that this ministry runs smoothly and effectively.

Bobbi
Bobbi Clayton

Bobbi is the Stephen Leader Team Coordinator and Referrals Coordinator.  As an active Stephen Minister for 26 years and Stephen Leader for 20 years she believes strongly in helping people who are hurting.  As a Referral Coordinator she connects those who are in crisis with an appropriate Stephen Minister in a caring and completely confidential way.  She has gained organizational experience over the years by organizing and training many classes of Stephen Ministers.
Bill
William Nicklas

Bill is the Training Coordinator on our Stephen Ministry team. He retired several years ago after four decades in graduate and medical school education and research. As Training Coordinator he will oversee all aspects of training Stephen Ministers including scheduling, organization of class sessions, retreats, and coordinating devotion leaders. He will work closely with other leaders such as the Continuing

Education and Supervision Coordinators to ensure that high standards of training are maintained, and always stressing that Stephen Ministry is distinctively Christian in its care-giving.

Dave

Dave Hindermann

Dave is the Continuing Education Coordinator for our Stephen Ministry. Dave will work with the Leadership Team to identify topics and specific areas of concern in which Stephen Ministers may need further training. He will provide the lead in arranging for the appropriate speaker or speakers to deal with the specific subject.

Lynn

Lynne Selquist

Lynn has been a Stephen Leader for over 20 years and coordinates Supervision for Stephen Ministry.  She will also be coordinating awareness building within the congregation and community.  After Lynn completed her Leadership training, she was convinced that one of the strengths of the Stephen Ministry program was the structure that Supervision meetings provided to the Stephen Ministers. This structure enables each Stephen Minister to provide the best possible confidential care to their care receivers as well as ensure that the Stephen Ministers are applying their training expertise to the caring relationship.  She is excited to be a part of this caring ministry as it begins a new chapter in its service to St. Paul and the community.

Each of these people stands ready to help you should you experience a need of Stephen Ministry in your life.  If you are interested in joining this group of well-trained and dedicated Stephen Leaders, or if you want to know more about becoming an Stephen Minister, please contact Bobbie or Lynn.
